This may seem strict, but we have to be extra careful--forums we've known have been shut down in the past due to copyright infringement.
1. ALWAYS credit the lineart/image you are using, and if possible link back to the original image. THIS INCLUDES putting a copyright on it if there isn't one (even if there's already a signature). For the forum's safety, we must have a copyright on every lineart/image that is not made by you (and adding your own copyright is not a bad idea either). If you can't add a copyright or credit for some reason, please let the mod team know and provide us with the original link, and we will edit it for you.
2. Images, even if they're free to use, MIGHT NOT BE OKAY TO PUT ON A FORUM--it's all up to the artist. For example, there are lots of free linearts on Deviantart, but sometimes the artists want their linearts to stay on Deviantart ONLY. This is very important to pay attention to--even I've caught myself once or twice.
3. The only time pre-coloured images are permitted is if the artist has made the image specifically for you, or given you express permission to use it on Proboards, and we will require proof of that (screenshot of permission/link to image will work). So this means that any images found on Google images or Photobucket will not be allowed. Again, this is in the interest of forum safety.
4. Now avatars and shoutbox icons are also included in this, but they're a little different. A lot of those types of images are found on Google or Photobucket and don't require any link backs or copyrights because they're in public domain. However, if you do come across an icon or avatar that is made by someone and they've given permission to use it, then please mention somewhere on your profile where you found it to give credit and be extra safe. You can post it in your signature, if that's easiest.
5. If this seems like a lot, and you don't know how to color lineart but still want an image of your character, don't forget about our Pictures board where you can request images from other members. There are also our Adopt a Design threads, which could hold the design you never knew you wanted!
As well, generic free-linearts are all good, but if you see somebody with a really unique lineart, perhaps try to find a different one for your own character ^^ If you can't, of course that's totally fine--but some people spend a lot of time looking for just that right lineart (:
