Genesis;
So she was to be an Alphess again, was she?
A few mossy, water-logged branches cracked under her paws as she wound her way through the growths near the river's edge. There was a hard light in her eyes--one that often shone there--but today, at least, her gaze was directed inwardly, at herself. Was she ready to do this? Physically, of course she was. She had lead a deadly-successful pack before with no trouble.
But mentally? Genesis wasn't sure. The pack that she had once headed had been brutal; a blood thirsty band of killers and assassins. It seemed like a different life; and indeed, she had tried to separate herself from it by coming to the Blisswood. But here again, she had been found by all the old memories--as she knew one day, she would be.
Was she truly ready?
The Gods seemed to be on her side, Epicenter was, at least, and she assumed he knew what he was talking about; but then again, with the Gods of the forest there seemed to be a disturbing amount of free-will. Of course this was good, Genesis would rather die than be a slave for some powerful deity... but it would have been nice to have the reassurance. If Epicenter coming to her and requesting her lead meant that he had looked through the future and had seen that nothing would go wrong, she could rest easy. But she had a feeling that wasn't what had happened. He had looked through what a future of her reign would look like, that much was obvious, but she had a nagging suspicion that the Gods were less concerned with the well-being of individuals, than of the land as a whole. What would it be to a god if an Alpha lost herself and became a tyrant once more? Why should they care?
Perhaps Genesis becoming what she feared she would, would be for the good of the land in the end, a healthy balance between the light and the dark. It was not a happy sentiment.
In any case, the stormy-blue and deep purple female continued on her way. She was both searching herself for answers--a clue of her mental stability, perhaps--and searching the land that would be hers if she agreed. When Anubis had been the Alpha, and Genesis merely a Beta, she had seen the land plenty of times; but now, with the chance of actually ruling the land (rather than the bad mockery of it that she had had when Anubis disappeared), it was all looking different.
There was also a part of her that was excited to see what would happen, of course. She had been all-powerful in her past life. But her anxiety outweighed that fact by a good measure, at least at that moment. It didn't help that she had nobody to head the pack with, either. Maybe that was better, in the end.
A dark queen could not kill or fail her subjects if she didn't have any subjects to begin with.
